Mestre Flávio Caranguejo

Flavio Luiz da Silva, Mestre Flavio Caranquejo, son of capoeiristas, was born in the city of São Paulo, Brazil. He started capoeira when he was a kid in the beginning of the 80s, at Fonte do Gavatá with Mestre Kenura.

 

In the beginning of the 90s he met Mestre Peixinho and became part of Grupo Senzala, carrying out work in all social classes by working in clubs, schools, academies, neighborhood associations and universities. He represented Brazil in several countries (USA, Canada, Argentina, Chile, Israel, Palestine, India, Russia, Finland, France, Serbia, Denmark, among others) teaching classes and performing presentations and shows of capoeira and Brazilian popular culture.

Mestre Flavio caranguejo

In 2011 he was awarded the title Mester (Master in English) by Mestre Peixinho of the Centro Cultural Senzala de Capoeira. He is the creator and organizer of the "Capoeiragem" event, held annually in the city of São Paulo in the second week of December. He currently coordinates the Capoeira Senzala Cultural Center in the State of São Paulo and other states in Brazil, as well as some countries abroad.

 

He  also is the founding president of the Casa Grande e Senzala Association, a civil non-profit organization created in 2012 with the objective of making Capoeira an educational and citizenship tool by promoting and disseminating Brazilian popular culture through capoeira and its cultural manifestations.
